  • The City of Nottingham Neighbourhood Watch Council (CNNWC) is a constituted, voluntary organisation established to support Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators and Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in their efforts to reduce Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour. The Council comprises about 15 voting members drawn from all areas of the City, including its two Universities, plus ex officio members from professional and voluntary agencies. All of its voting members are Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators.

The activities of the CNNWC are generously supported financially by One Nottingham, The City of Nottingham Council, the Police. It is also supported by the City of Nottingham Crime & Drugs Partnership, with which the CNNWC has a close working relationship.
    ______________________

  • The CNNWC is a pro-active body with ambitious plans.

Three Working Groups formed by the Council are responsible for executing its Action Plan for 2007-08.

This Working Group, which includes a number of Information Technology experts, is responsible for introducing a new communications system, called NEIGHBOURHOOD ALERT, to replace the Ringmaster that failed a few years ago. This new system has been generously loaned in perpetuity to the CNNWC by VISAV Ltd, Sherwood, Nottingham. It will be introduced across the City next month, i.e. in October 2007. Neigbourhood Watch Co-ordinators who do not have a computer may receive telephone messages, at times of their choosing, from the Police and other relevant Agencies. Co-ordinators with internet access may choose between telephone and e-mail messaging. In addition, they will have opportunities to use an impressive interactive website to receive and transmit information in complete confidence. Neighbourhood Watch Administrators housed at Barrasford House, Goldsmith Street, the home of the City`s Crime & Drugs Partnership, will be responsible for running the new communications system.

This Working Group was established to recruit new Neighbvourhood Watch Schemes in the City, particularly in its less wealthy areas. Some of these Schemes may depart from the traditional Neighbourhood Watch format, especially when the need for confidentially is paramount.

The CNNWC is acutely aware that it is essential to engage younger members of our community in combating Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour. Its third Working Group contains volunteers with success in engaging young persons in less affluent parts of the City and also has representation from the City’s Universities (students represent about 25 % of the City’s population).

The three Working Groups report to the CNNWC at its General Meetings (4 per year).
    _________

It is important to note that the CNNWC is a Voluntary Body and will require collaboration, support and resources from the Police, City Council and other funding bodies if it is successfully to implement its Pilot Schemes. It will also require strong support and input from the local communities involved in the Schemes.
If you are a Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator and would like to be a member of the CNNWC please do not hesitate to contact its Chairperson at 0115 9513230.
