CNNWC thanks City Council for support

03/08/2011
Five years ago the City Council provided a grant to the NW association in Wollaton and Lenton Abbey, to develop an internet-based system which would improve two-way communication between the Police and local community. This was partly spent on a licence to use a system already under development in Sherwood and Mapperley Park. This summer, 21 versions of that initial idea and system are being deployed across the City by the Nottinghamshire Police Force under the heading "Alerts". CNNWC chairman, David Rhodes, wishes to publicly thank, as he has already done privately, the City Council for its faith in what was support for a community initiative and local company (VISAV). This was some years ahead of the concept of a Big Society and in truth more practical and tangible. Also for its subsequent support for the Neighbourhood Watch movement across the City which is currently being matched by the City Police Division. In these times of financial hardship it is good to find an instance of where collaboration between the community, the local authority, the Police and a local business has been a success.
