Objectives

To promote good citizenship and greater public participation in the prevention and solution of crime so that effective liaison between the police and public can be achieved in order to promote the efficiency of the police in the City of Nottingham.

Specifically to promote and support the creation and maintenance of a network of NW Schemes across the City in order to provide:
  •         A very effective communications network of small groups of people embedded in their local community
  •         A stronger sense of community and groups which can interact meaningfully with initiatives such as community policing and the safer neighbourhood teams
  •         Personal, face-to-face dissemination of measures to make homes secure and deal with cold callers and doorstep crime
  •         Street signs and door stickers to ward off criminals
  •         Help for vulnerable people
  •         Support for community resistance to anti-social behavior and crime and help for those affected to seek remedies
  •         Support for the CNNWC itself in talking to senior Policemen and City Council officials
  •         Reasons for Police to invest in systems such as Ringmaster and Neighbourhood Alert which provide up-to-date information on crime and measures to combat it
Benefits

NW-Scheme Coordinators registered with CNNWC will generally gain benefits from the achievement of the above objectives, the reduction of crime and anti-social behavior and a justified feeling of security. They will also:
  •           Receive information about NW activities in the City and be able  to share best practices at events run by the CNNWC
  •           Obtain reductions in house insurance premiums (in some cases)
  •           Be covered by personal indemnity insurance when on NW business
  •           Entitled to attend the Annual NW Conference in the City
  •           Entitled to join or form a local association of NW coordinators which would have a right of representation on the CNNWC and  vote at general meetings
  •           Be better placed to liaise with the Police and influence decisions at local meetings run by Safer  Neighbourhood Teams
  •           Have a route to expressing dissatisfaction or useful suggestions to the Police through the CNNWC itself
  •           Get kudos from the local community for their contribution to its well-being
